LOVE'S EXPRESSION
|
When being in love, one feels a great necessity to express this sentiment. But love is not a material object, to which one can give an obvious name. And the road towards finding appropriate words that say "love" can be various. We see this in the three different approaches in respectively Latin, Germanic languages and Greek together with Hebrew.
- LATIN AND NEO-LATIN
Latin, and with it French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, trace their love back to the concept of belonging together. The root is “A M”
- GERMANIC LANGUAGES
Germanic languages find the origin of love in their own inner body. The root is “L V “
- GREEK AND HEBREW
Greeks and Jews have derived their expression of love from that of holding permanently. The root is “AGHB”
