Proto-Semitic *KOGH --- *KIK-ÜS Greek
The two roots do not seem too identical, but if we consider : firstly the frequent development from O into I and secondly the fact that a K at the end of a word is pronounced KH, nearly identical to GH, we see less distance. Greek scholars give "K I K-" as the root of "kiküs". We have no indication of another Greek word with a vowel " O " and related meaning.
Note:
- Hebrew has also a root "
כ
ר
ח , karagh "standing for "force" and related to other Indo-European roots.
See entry E 0203 (Hebrew 0507).
Note:
- Proto-Semitic. This Hebrew root is present in Aramaic "כ ו ח א , koghà= strength, power". Arabic "kagha = he defeated" and "wakaha = he battered down" may be related. There is a narrow basis for a hypothesis of : "*כ ו ח ".
Note:
- Greek "kiküs" has "üs" as a suffix for the shaping of a noun.
