Hebrew *MEKHORÀ --- *KHORA Greek
In our supposition this Hebrew word "mekhorą", also pronounced "mekhurą", has been composed with the prefix M ( pronounced me- or mi-) that means in itself "from". The remaining part has the root "K R" that becomes "KH R" with the prefix.
Note:
- Greek "khora" today, in New Greek, means "land, region" or in the islands "the (main) village". A convincing etymology for this important word has not been found.
Note:
- English. The word " chorography " stands for the " technique of mapping a region or district " . It has of course to be well distinguished from the word " choreography " as the art of creating ballets or dances .
Note:
- Proto-Semitic. We have no evidence that allows a hypothesis for Proto-Semitic. Some scholars see this word for "origin " related to the verb "karą" that says "to dig, excavate", reasoning that people have their origin in places where wells were dug. Anything is possible, but it is a far-fetched reasoning and with that little convincing.
